Vašků, Tereza ; Markvartová, Eva (advisor) ; Bučková, Tamara (referee)
This presented bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of two works with the motif of metamorphosis, Franz Kafka's short story Die Verwandlung (1915) and Thomas Brussig's novel Die Verwandelten (2020). The motif of metamorphosis has always fascinated artists and it appears in new works and thus enters the general consciousness. In the introductory section, the general theme of the motif of metamorphosis in literature and the division of metamorphosis is presented. The second part is devoted to an in-depth analysis of the works Die Verwandlung and Die Verwandelten. The metamorphosis of characters, the development of family relationships and communication are stressed the most. The third part is devoted to the question of the similarity of the works, since the novel by Thomas Brussig is undoubtedly based on Franz Kafka's short story (similar titles, division into 3 parts, the transformation of people into animals with the ability to think and communicate). The differences that exist between the works stem from the different times in which the works they were written. Physiognomy of Writing: In the Folds of Literary Ornament
Jirsa, Tomáš ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor) ; Vojvodík, Josef (referee) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
My PhD. thesis "Physiognomy of Writing: In the Folds of Literary Ornament" deals with the relation between literature and ornament. It interconnects the sphere of literary history and literary theory with that of visuality. Ornament is analyzed and interpreted as a theoretical figure which allows an examination of literature from the point of view of its visuality and its movement. This approach, elaborated and applied here, labeled "physiognomy of writing", offers a possibility of a visual reading of literature; it represents a way to read literary texts not only in terms of their meaning and message, but also from the point of view of their visual and figural performance. In the first part I outline the concept of ornament in its historical, esthetic and philosophical frames, and explain how to use it in order to interpret literature. The second part offers readings of several 20th century literary texts (Franz Kafka, Rainer Maria Rilke, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Samuel Beckett, Louis Wolfson and Blanche T.) from the perspective of the affinity of their literary speech and particular ornamental manifestations.
The Reflection of Franz Kafka's Writing in the Works of Villy Sørensen
Foktová, Martina ; Březinová, Helena (advisor) ; Hartlová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis and interpretation of short stories "The murder case - Kafka's idyll" and "Tiger in the kitchen" from the collection of stories Sære historier (1963) by Villy Sørensen. The primary aim of this thesis is to distinguish a similarity between the short stories of Villy Sørensen and the works of Franz Kafka. The author works on the assumption that both writers use parable as their main means of expression. The first chapter of the thesis concerns Villy Sørensen and the time he lived, together with the fantastic prose, which he represents. Subsequently the author characterizes the parable with definitions and examples from world literature. In analysis of the short story "The murder case", the reader will not just see an interpretation of story as it is; a comparison is also made with The Trial by Franz Kafka. Lastly there is an analysis of the short story "Tiger in the kitchen".

Female characters in the work of Franz Kafka
Svobodová, Karolína ; Weinberg, Manfred (advisor) ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (referee)
The thesis deals with female characters in selected works by Franz Kafka (1883-1924), the well known representative of the Prague German literature. These works include the short story The Metamorphosis (1915) and the posthumously published novel fragments The Man Who Disappeared (1927), The Trial (1925) and The Castle (1926). The thesis discusses how the individual female characters are portrayed in these texts, what role they play in the protagonist's life and how they influence him. At the forefront, there is an interaction between the male main characters and the female characters. The thesis proceeds mainly in a textanalytical way without making any connections between fictional women in the works of the author and real women in his life. At first, the female characters in each of the selected texts are separately analysed and then they are compared. The conclusion serves for a comparison of all female characters in these works and for a formulation of a general statement about them.

The comic adaptations of Franz Kafka's novella The Metamorphosis will be evaluated based on pre-selected criteria. Part of the work will also be a comparison of the original text with the selected comic adaptation and noting the changes in the fictional world created by transferring it to the comic medium. The work will help teachers to understand the theory of comics. Theoretical knowledge will be applied in the creation of two teaching blocks built for the purposes of literary education at primary and secondary schools. The concrete implementation of both teaching blocks in practice will be compared.
